The Eagle represents the traits of freedom and independence, power and wisdom, and soars with grandeur and dignity over Tirol’s glorious mountain scenery. The same grandeur and dignity is what you will experience by hiking the new Adlerweg long-distance trail this summer: From August 26 through September 02, 2006, you are strongly recommended to take a walk along the eagle’s wings!
The route of the Adlerweg follows the main ridge of the Alps from St. Johann in Tirol’s Unterland Region, across Wilder Kaiser Range, Brandenberg Alps, Rofan and Karwendel Massif, Lechtal Alps to St. Anton am Arlberg. As it winds its way through Tirol, the route climbs rugged peaks and passes pristine ponds, alpine villages and ice caves, chapels, chamois and marmots, hardwood forests and alpine gardens. With its 280-kilometer footpath, the Adlerweg (Eagle Trail) offers endless hiking opportunities for the day hiker, weekend overnighter, and extended backpacker. There are 23 attractive legs of different lengths and proficiency levels. And you can choose whether you want to hike the trail in its entirety or just some single legs. However, at the end of this ‘long and winding road’ you’ll find the prestigious mountain resort of St. Anton that plays host to its popular, annual Mountain Film Festival from August 29 through September 02, 2006.
