The castle in the Tirol is a marvellous property in a lovely setting, but so much in debt that Countess Therese (Erika Remberg), the young heiress, has to contemplate its being auctioned. The young engineer Thomas Stegmann (Karlheinz Böhm) appears and rents the property for several days. He wishes to receive the American millionaire Hover here, having pretended that he is the owner in order to conduct his business negotiations in a fitting setting. Thomas has invented a sensational helicopter engine improvement and is looking for a buyer, whilst Therese is pleased to be able to bring in a little income for the property.
Thomas's request that she supply grand servants seems somewhat difficult to fulfill, but friends and creditors are all willing to act the part for their countess. Mannequin Gloria, Thomas's girlfriend, is to act the "baroness". But she quickly departs when she notices that Thomas and "Resi" are in love. Hover feels at home in his old home country and at the castle, but he has to admit to the disappointed Thomas that he cannot purchase his invention. Speculating has made a poor man of him overnight. Sadly, Therese travels to the notary public just when a new rescuer appears.
