Countess Toni (E. Remberg) unexpectedly goes home during the boarding school break and embarrasses her mother, Countess Valerie Hardberg (J. Holzmeister) and her grandfather, the old general (R. Forster). They have no opportunity to clear up a long-standing misunderstanding with the Kaiserjäger and Colonel Weigant (A. Hörbiger) who is quartered in the castle with his officers: Toni whose father was killed in a hunting accident soon after her birth is not a boy as the others think, even if the colonel does believe that she is the young count when he sees her wearing lederhosen and acting like a tomboy and even if the general puts her in cadet's uniform. Toni enjoys the uniform, but less so the fact that Lieutenant Pacher (A. Hoven) has taken a fancy to her beautiful mother. The confusion mounts.
