The outbreak of the First World War seems to brutally destroy the deep friendship between the Dolomites leader Florian Dimai (Luis Trenker) and the Italian Count Arthur Franchini. The Italian company under Franchini dig a tunnel beneath the Austrian emplacements in order to blow up the enemy-occupied Lagazuoi peaks. The Austrians trapped on the mountain hear the drilling and await the explosion helplessly.
