Eva Leitner is radiant with happiness. After ten years of marriage she and Johann, her husband, are at last going to Italy for two weeks' holiday. Not that Eva is unhappy in the marvellous skiing resort of Ellmau where the couple run an idyllically situated mountain hut, but work in the tourist trade means that they hardly have any private life. Eva remains childless, another cause of worry. Instead, the couple look after Florian, an orphan who is growing up at his grandfather's home in the neighbourhood. The noise of a helicopter startles Eva and Maria, her mother-in-law. Anita Egger, boss of the local lift company, and Carlo Ambach, an affluent businessman from Munich, pay a visit to the hut in order to discuss their wedding plans with Johann. Eva is worried, the planned date is in the middle of their long-awaited holiday. Business is brisk and there is no time to clear the matter up with Johann. Eva does not realize that Johann has accepted the wedding celebration due to money worries. He has far exceeded his means with his participation in the access lift to the hut. The bank is already sending demand notes. Before he can talk to Eva, however, she has disappeared. Misjudging the situation, she feels let down by Johann and drives with Carlo to Venice where her sister lives. Carlo and Anita have also had a fierce quarrel, this resulting in Anita's breaking their engagement. The Italian sunshine puts the travellers' mixture of anger, frustration and sadness in a different light. When Eva finally returns home, driven by desire for Johann, they fall happily into each other's arms. There is a happy end for Anita and Carlo, too.
