Borovski, a member of the Stasi, has car trouble in the Tirol while transporting money to Switzerland. He buries the money and is observed doing so by some of the villagers. Borovski dies in a row with a Stasi colleague. The money vanishes, but some of the villagers then start leading a carefree and luxurious life. Only years later when Martina, Borovski's daughter, suddenly appears do the thieves start to display uneasiness. The investigation leads Moritz Eisner back to the past.
