Tirol loves Bollywood & Bollywood loves Tirol
In the last 12 years more than 70 Indian filmproductions have been shooting in Tirol.
Cine Tirol was quite surprised when in the beginning of its marketing activities the interest of the Indian film industry for shooting in the area was overwhelming: the beauty of the alpine landscape, the cultural sights and the friendliness of the local people attracted already more than 70 Indian film productions so far – for example Nitin Manmohan’s “Chal mere bhai”, Ajay Devgan’s “Raju Chacha”, Krishna Vamsi’s “Khadgam” and “Vasantham” featuring Venkatesh Babu were shot partly in Tirol. “Until now Cine Tirol has been co-operating with many Indian film productions and we hope that this success will go on!“ says Sabine Aigner. “Without any doubt we can compete with Switzerland very well – Tirol reflects the true magic of the mountains and on the price side we can make the even more attractive offers to the film productions. We may not be a major film centre yet but we are near to Munich which is only two hours' drive away if one needs to bring in equipment".
Sound, camera – and Action! It was in September 2007 when you could hear Subash Ghai saying those words on various locations in the Austrian region Tirol. After several location scoutings it became true, Subash Ghai, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire), Zayed Khan and Boman Irani arrived in Innsbruck for the shooting of “Yuvvraaj”. In the following weeks splendid spots like the Imperial Castle Innsbruck, the Bergisel Skijump, Kufstein Castle and several historical and nature spots in and around Innsbruck, the historic town center of Hall in Tirol and the Alpbachvalley as well as the Swarovski Cristal World turned into glamorous locations.
The alpine scenery and the beauty of Tirol, combined with infrastructure and support through Cine Tirol, the local Filmcommission and Fund, it just seemed the perfect place for shooting the impressive and touching story of an interesting play of mind games of young ones of today’s time, woven with grand music all the way. „We have always seen enemies fighting but it is very interesting to see brothers within a family fighting with each other” says Subash Ghai.
For 2011 several producers already showed their interest in coming to Tirol for various filmprojects. Tirol will be ready to welcome these filmteams from India! Namaste!
